Historical Background

The Assemblies of God church in Rwanda was pioneered by Pastor Jean & Christine Gatabazi in 1990, in their living room with five people from the neighborhood. The church was officially registered on September 16, 1993. By April 6, 1994, when Genocide committed against Tutsis erupted; 12 churches were planted. During the atrocities, we lost 3/4 of our members. In August 1994; we picked up and started gathering again with some few survivors with so much pain and broken-hearted! Our only hope was placed on the solid promise of Jesus Christ that committed..”I shall build my church, and gates of hades shall never prevail against it.” We have the witness of God’s grace and mercy and faithfulness of our Lord. After 29 years after the tragedy; we have seen growth and expansion. Assemblies of God have a total of 170 churches nationwide.
